Mixing Comments [Mr Mark Dollin]

Wow this is a dramatic one Nice change without the drums. Listening a few time through. Same mix method with all the other tracks, minus the drums.
Got the two bass parts to mesh and sit right… some evil fuzz here.
Shaping the tone of all the higher instruments.
Now all the instruments together to adjust balances. Bringing up the guitars a bit.
Cleaning all the samples!
Now for the vox, acapella and sent to a group. EQ to get the tone right. Making the chorus delay a bit longer. Mmmm some low Hunz voice is nice in the chorus.
Adding in the other sounds to join the vocals. Making sure the epic chorus retains punch and intensity.
Real emotional intensity in this song, quite enjoying it. Taking me to a similar place as Kate Bush’s ‘Under Ice’ does.
Everything is feeling right, so time for a headphone check. Micro adjustment on the low voice in the chorus. Adding another reverse pan delay to the chorus distortion to get it bigger.
Now onto the big speakers: All good. Time for an ear break.
Fresh ears! Just a tiny edit on the vocal top end. Checking over. OK, all done!

When I loaded this up, it was the rough, rough sketch that took me 20mins to put together. It sounded old, and I was happy with it. Old as in “90′s power rock ballad” old. I’ve just kept this with no drums and feel like it really works. Just needs either another part or two to end. We’ll see what inspires as the week unfolds. Excuse the bad edits here and there ..

Drawing in bass sample
Found a nice tone
Going to growl it a bit using the instrument setup
Trying to find a distorted guitar like sound over the top
Found over top sound shaping things around
Don’t think I’ll put drums in this song at all
Time for bed, although I think the neighbors have other plans T_T it’s 11pm people.
Early morning so I can get stuck into this.
Just discovered the humanize button
Trying to get the bass sounding more random
Hearing other random notes now going to put them in.
Still sticking to the no drum feeling
but it feels a bit, eer .. Old.
Need a break for this for now it’s feel a bit crappy.
Listening again, I think I feel the love for it again.
Adding more instrumentation to the chorus
Redid the vocal parts for the chorus
Playing with the bass in the verse to add variation
Going to keep the bass the same
Like where it’s heading it’s simple and emotive.
will take a few more hours to complete this one.

It’s amazing what can happen in a few moments. I heard a melody in my head. I played it in. I added the bass line. Added arpeggiating sequences (ever since my wife has been playing Comfortably Numb by Pink Floyd I’ve been loving the downward type). I heard a vocal melody. I hummed it in. 10 mins past and I have a sketch to play with tomorrow.
